The lobbies got the power - within the EU

The intense working of lobbyists and politicians that figure on salary lists of corporations such as VW, Siemens or RWE is a hot topic in Germany at the moment. But lobbyists are nowhere more active than in Brussels - and EU-parliamentarians heavily intervene. A principle report on this topic.

What role do the lobbies play in the European Union, particularly those in and from industry? How close is the relationship between the parliamentarians and the corporations? Those were the questions the European Parliament had examined in 2003. The extensive report was adopted by the Committee on Industry with 28 votes in favour, 12 against and 12 abstentions.

The section "Explanatory Statement" contains a number of fundamental statements and details that could, once more, be useful in the ongoing debate.

Hereunder, the report - first the coverpage, then the explanatory statement. At the end of this page, you will find the link to the original document.
