Hans-Peter Martin, Doctor of Jurisprudence, born 1957, in Bregenz, Austria.

Scholarship in California (Acalanes High School Lafayette), Doctorate in Law and Political Science in Vienna 1984.

Foreign editor at the German News Magazine "Der Spiegel" from 1986 until 1999 with emphasis on Europe, later on globalization. Foreign correspondent in Rio de Janeiro for South America, later Vienna and Prague.

Regular commentaries for various international publications, work for the BBC World Services.

Since July 1999 Independent Member of the European Parliament. Rapporteur of the European Parliament on Lobbying and Access to Confidential Documents. Reelected June 2004. Now Member of the Budget Control Committee and Coordinator of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs.

One of Europe's most successful non-fiction writers, on the bestseller-lists in Germany for many years, more than 6.5 billion books sold worldwide. Translations into 28 languages.
